The few odd times DS has woken up early, I just bring him into bed with me (if he isn't already) and he usually falls back asleep within 30 mins. Doesn't matter whether it's 530am, 730am or 830am. Might not be a practical solution for you but it works for us.

2(?)mths - present (7mths)
anything that crinkles. he loves his crinkle owl.

3-6 months
roly poly chime ball - my ILs had this and DS loved it. it makes this chime noise when it rocks and the ducks/horsies move.
6mths - present
DS recently started crawling and he really likes these, especially the one that makes a rattle sound (Fisher Price Roll a Rounds)
7mths - present
DS just received this as a gift, he's still a touch to young for it but can tell he'll like it. It's Discovery Toy GoGo Caterpillar.

the tragic deaths on HW63 in Alberta from a few days ago reminded me that we don't have anything written in place yet for DS if DH or I die (at the same time). We know who we'd like to ask to be caregiver for our kid but neither DH or I know what the proper etiquette is when someone accepts to look after a child if both parents die?
for example. does the caregiver typically receive a stipend for looking after a child? or would they dip into the financials left to the child? do people dictact what the caregivers can spend money on? what measures (if any) does one put in place if, say, the child comes from a wealthier home than their caregiver (and their children)?
my worry is that the caregiver may take the money and spend it all willy nilly (yes, one could argue, if i'm worried about that, then that person isn't the right caregiver, but moot point). DH is under the impression we need to allocate a stipend/wage to this caregiver for looking after our kid, whereas if i didn't think this was the case (at least it wasn't with mine and my siblings 'caregivers' if our parents passed, our caregivers were just supposed to dip into our financials for anything me and my siblings related, but please correct me if this isn't the case). any other considerations to consider?
(i've posted this in misc hoping to reach a broader audience since not all caregivers are ones that have kids - mine weren't). feel free to pm instead of posting for the world to see, i'm really just looking for information)
thank you!

Were doing a version of pupd (I think!) for nap training. Basically if DS wakes up happy, he's up for play, if he wakes up crying, he's patted on the back until he falls asleep (we started with pupd when he woke up crying after a nap but when he started sleeping on his tummy it was just easier for me to leave him there and pat him on the back beside him). DS definitely prefers s longer nap after lunch!
I should add, now at 6 months he takes anywhere from 1-10min to put down for a nap ..... At 4 months, it was taking me close to 30min .... He just recently started lengthening his naps but hopefully your LO is more open to naps than mine!!!!

Can't foresee any. It's becoming more and more common now for one of the parents to have a different last name than their LO.
DS has a different last name than me and we've had no issues. The "long-form" birth certificate lists the first and last names of the parents, so always have that as back-up if needed.

((hugs))
DS also started teething at 2.5 months. His top canines bumped out (but have yet to cut through). He just cut his first tooth this week. The first year has so many changes for our LOs, like PPs mentioned, we just do what we can.
I can't comment much on the food aspect as we're not there yet! But if he likes PB on toast at the moment, go for it!
I don't believe you are fostering bad habits, you're just adapting to what you're being faced with. I read this quote on a Dr Sears website, and I find it so true, and remind myself of it when I worry or have doubt ....
"We believe that babies have the ability to teach their parents what level of parenting they need"And for some humour with cosleeping positions, check out this website

how do i know if DS is ready for an earlier bedtime? right now, he usually goes down around 8-9pm, gets up for a feed, typically, about 30-60mins later, then is out for the night (not the whole night, but start of his long stretch). he gets up typically between 7-8am. his day naps are sporatic, used to be short naps, 30mins, every 2-2.5hrs and lately, he's been wanting to change his day naps to .... not really sure yet!
what signs did your LO give that made you change your LO's bedtime? thanks!

we haven't bought ours yet but we were over at someone's home who had a "retract a gate" (ordered online through the US). it'll be perfect for our staircase as it's pretty wide and off-centered. a little more expensive than your "regular" baby gate, but we've been looking for something like this locally and haven't found it yet (specifically for the top of the stairs). we'll probably just put up 'whatever' brand gates separating the living room/kitchen (well is the plan right now ...)
http://www.retract-a-gate.com/ETA: the 'whatever' brand gates mentioned are some $10 gates my dad bought somewhere, not sure if we'll be using them or if they will work where we'd like them

how do i know if DS is on a nursing strike? would he refuse the boob all day for a couple days? or is it just drastically reduced feeding(s)?
if he is on one, what would you recommend so supply doesn't diminish? continue to feed on demand and offering boob up lots to him hoping he'll take? pump? DS doesn't have regular feedings on a normal day, he's a bit of a snacker so it's a little tough for me to guage his regular feeding times/quantity.
we were out on the town today but tomorrow will be at home, so will be keeping on eye on # of wet diapers. maybe DS is just having a very non-hungry day ...
any advice/suggestions/words of wisdom? thanks.

if this topic has recently been posted, feel free to direct me there ....
i'm in the market for a new camera. considering a DSLR, preferably under $1000 (basic lens and body). my current camera is a fancier point and shoot (panasonic dmc fz8) but is starting to show its wear and its ability to quickly focus and take a picture is getting slower and slower, which is starting to annoy me.
any suggestions or recommendations?
