DS was tongue tied when he was born. We had it clipped when he was four days old, but he'd already shredded my nipples by then. Once my nipples healed and he learned to latch better, nursing was fine. But I cried through several feeds because the pain was so bad at one point.

If someone I knew posted that on FB as representative of their opinion (and not just as a point of discussion), I would probably delete them. Family would get blocked from my newsfeed. Although first I would probably reply that they are very fortunate that they have so blessed as to never have to use a food bank, and remind them that hard work only goes so far. Sometimes people just get dealt crap circumstances.
I think that's an incredibly narrow-minded and entitled viewpoint, particularly in the middle of a recession that has meant the loss of many, many jobs.

We regularly drive 8-9 hrs one way to our home province. There's no way in hell I would have done a 14+ hr drive with DS last week. Just thinking about doing that is exhausting. And DS is a pretty easy, eats-well/sleeps-well baby.
I would fly, or break up the drive over 2 days if you really must drive.

Your family doctor is the best place to start. He/she will refer you to the services you need.
DH had his testing and diagnosis for ADD done in Saskatoon. It was done jointly through his family doctor and Student Services at the university (he was a student at the time).
If you're a student through UofS, go to Student Counselling Services. They will be able to help you, or point you to the correct place to access services on campus.

Make sure that you can flip the mattress, not just rotate it!
We bought a pillowtop last time with the 'pillowtop' only on one side. This means that we can only rotate the mattress, not flip it, and it has worn way faster than it should have.
For our next mattress, either it will have the pillowtop on both sides (does this exist?) or (more likely) we'll buy a non-pillowtop and then buy a really good mattress pad/cover.

I'm applying for EI (mat/parental leave) and have a question about the application. The Service Canada rep that I spoke to made this all about as clear as mud.
In the application, it asks me to identify every week of the last 52 weeks when I made less than $225.
The nature of my employment is a variety of 'contracts' (I'm not self-employed though) for marking and working as a research assistant. I have an agreement (sometimes written, sometimes not) for a set amount of hours to be billed, and I submit hours in chunks as the work is being completed. So, for example, for a marking contract I will submit one chunk of hours after I mark Assignment #1, and the second chunk of hours after I mark Assignment #2.
For the most of the past 52 weeks (other than the last 3 months), I did not receive regular bi-weekly payments for set amount of hours per week.
Apparently I have two options: Option 1: Find out from my employers (two employers and a total of 6 jobs/contracts) the weeks when I was paid less than $225 for EACH contract, add up the info from each separate contract, and identify the weeks were I had less than $225 on the EI application. This makes my head hurt just contemplating this phone calls and paper work and math this will require.
Option 2: They will take the average (of what? I don't know) for the last 6 months and pay 55%.
Question: Are there any downsides to just going with Option 2? Most of my EI-eligible income was paid out in the last 6 months, since I had little EI eligible income from May-Aug 2011.
Question: With Option 2, will they still consider the hours worked for the whole 52 weeks? (I'm unsure if I will have enough hours in just the 6 months to qualify).
Question: Will choosing Option 2 over Option 1 delay the processing of my application?
Question: When they ask for income, they mean EI-eligible income, correct? Ie. They are not asking for my non-taxable scholarship income (I just realized I should have asked the Service Canada rep that question).

I can cook, but I don't like cooking. DH cooks as well, but he's still learning.
That said, we do eat meals-from-scratch(ish) most nights. We do basic meal planning, and aim to have the ingredients in the house for about 5 dinners per week. We try to cook a meal one night, and then eat the leftovers the next night so that we aren't cooking every night. The other nights we do fend-for-yourself for supper or (less often) get take-out.

MA - Um, ow! I can't believe you broke your helmet! And boo to your pool being closed. I'm lucky that I'm central to three Ys, so when one of them is closed I can still swim at the other two.

We foster rescue dogs, and it sounds like everything is going quite normally. It takes our dogs a good 10-14 days to really settle in with a new foster dog. Don't be concerned at all that your dog is showing a bit of a personality change. The two dogs will find a new normal, and, for most 'first' dogs, once the adjustment period is over they really enjoy having a doggy companion.
Let them sort out the hierarchy themselves (eg. small warning growls are ok), and just keep them separated when you can't supervise them for now. This will all take time, so just be patient and let them work it out.

As a small dog owner, I can tell you that you aren't necessarily doing anything wrong and there's probably nothing wrong here. As a general rule, small dogs take longer to house train than big dogs. We were consistent and followed all of the rules and it still took 6m to train our male and nearly a year to fully train our female (both shih tzus).
Here's a few things to try:
1. Make sure that someone is going outside with him EVERY time, and praise/reward him immediately EVERY time. Putting him out in the yard unsupervised won't get him house trained.
2. Take him out on a schedule. Once an hour, and/or after every meal, nap and big play time.
3. Put him on an umbilical leash in the house. He DOES have signs to say he needs to go outside -- you guys just haven't learned what they are yet. Putting him on the umbilical will help your mom a)learn what his cues are and b)respond to them immediately and take him outside.

I don't think that you taught your DS anything wrong. Teaching him to be the 'boss' of dogs is a good thing. That said, 'Shoo' is not a command that most dogs will understand. We use 'off' for our dogs and other dogs at the dog park, and I tell other people's dogs to get 'off' me and my dogs on a regular basis.
However....you should not have a dog-shy child in an off-leash area, even if you feel he's doing well. It's not an appropriate place to socialize children with dogs.
The dog park is for dogs and people who are comfortable around dogs. If I am the the dog park with my dogs and there is a child there, I assume that that child is 100% comfortable with dogs. I expect my dogs to be polite and mind their manners, but I do not monitor them in the same way I would when they are on-leash and we approach a child on a public sidewalk or in a public park (where the child might not be expecting to meet a dog).
Not all dogs are child-friendly, and an off-leash area is just not a good place to have your DS meet dogs (particularly if you are not a 'dog person' who is familiar with reading dog cues and body language).
It would be much better to take your child to visit the dogs of friends/family where you know the dog is child-friendly.

No swimming for me. I hurt my back on Wed and have been in major pain ever since. I can barely walk, let alone exercise. FYI: If your ligaments are all loose to get your body ready for birth, maybe don't clean out your office, go for a swim, and get a whole whack of groceries and carry them into the house, all in the span of a few hours
I saw my chiro this morning though and had an adjustment (since last week, the two sides of my pelvis had tilted in opposite directions and my sacrum was out of place - yep, that would explain the pain!!) and have a physio appt this afternoon. Hopefully that will get everything close to fixed up so that I can walk/swim again and have a healthy back for labour.
