Nice work Gnome! I had company at my house all last week and am embarrassed to say I didn't get in any real "exercise". Lots of walking - around the mall, the zoo, etc. But nothing to strenuous. So I guess I'm a little short of my goal for the month, but that's OK.

We are putting a patio in this summer and it has to be done by late July because all of DH's family are coming to town for a wedding then.
Originally we thought we'd just suck it up and pay someone to do it...but after receiving a quote of $14 000 for a 325 square foot brick patio I think we will DIY. There are some grading issues (i.e. currently our yard trains toward our house, rather than away) but I think if we take our time and do it properly we will be OK.

Thanks honeysher!
By deposit slips I mean the sheets of paper you fill out when you are making a large cash deposit or a deposit with multiple cheques (the ones that help the bank organize your deposit). My bank obviously doesn't require this from me, since I only deposit one cheque at a time. But I wasn't sure what the government's requirements were. I keep my deposit receipts with the appropriate invoice in my files, so I'm hoping that is OK.

Zumba is dance-based fitness to Latin/International music. It's mostly cardio, but it can also be done with light weights to add a muscle toning element. It is the only group exercise class I've been able to stick with for more than 6 months. I love it so much I became a licensed instructor so I could get paid to do it!

I teach fitness classes on a contract basis. It is really more of a hobby than a money making venture; I don't come out with much profit once I take my expenses into account.
However, I want to make sure I am doing everything properly for when I file my taxes (as a sole proprietor). I understand that I am supposed to use duplicate deposit slips since they provide a record. I was hoping to just use a personal bank account for my deposits since I only deposit one cheque a month (and it is generally for less than $200). Opening a business account with a monthly fee doesn't seem worth it. However, my bank won't provide me with deposit slips for my personal account. Can I make my own, or use the print-out confirmation my bank gives me as documentation?

I tried a bunch of free ones, but none of them worked well for me. Eventually I forked over the money for Quicken and now that I've got the hang of it I love it. I use Excel for budgeting but I like how I can import my statements into Quicken and categorize my spending (especially when DH says he doesn't believe that he spent $200 at the comic store last month

I think student loans are OK, but I think they should be absolutely minimized. I see some students using the money to help pay for their reading break trip to Mexico...not a great idea! I was able to put myself through undergrad and grad school without student loans, but I was lucky to have the help of several scholarships (and several part time jobs).
I am not a fan of consumer debt. I have never carried a balance on my CC and hope to never. I would consider a car loan if the rate was really great, but prefer to pay cash for cars.
Mortgages are great, as long as you don't buy more house than you can afford. That being said, DH and I felt we could take on a slightly bigger mortgage because we have no other debt.
